Krithika Shankar is a senior disciple of Guru Kalpana Ravishankar, based in Dallas, Texas, USA. She has been training in the art of Bharatanatyam for over 17 years. At a tender age of 5, she came under the tutelage of Dr. Shobha Shashikumar in Bangalore, India. Under her guidance, Krithika has performed on various prestigious stages all over South India, including a grand-scale production conducted in collaboration with renowned veena artist, Dr. Jayanti Kumaresh in Chennai, India.
After her move to the US in 2014, she has perseveringly continued her passion for Bharatanatyam under Guru Kalpana Ravishankar in Dallas, under whose guidance she performed her arangetram at the prestigious Madras Music academy in Chennai in 2017. Her admiration for the artform had only blossomed after this as she continued to pursue her Master of Fine Arts in Bharatanatyam from Kalai Kaviri Tamil University, Tanjore, India. She is currently obtaining advanced training in Karanas under Guru Seethalakshmi Vijay from Chennai, India. In addition to her work in Bharatanatyam, Krithika has worked as a character stage dancer for Mainstage and Think India foundation’s production, “The Royal Dilemma” which was staged 9 times in September of 2019 and gathered hundreds of audiences in Dallas. She is also a choreographer and guest instructor for ABCD School of Dance based in Phoenix, Arizona, where she has taught several semi-classical/Bollywood choreographies to dancers of all age groups. Many of these choreographies were staged in their annual dance recital, Let’s Nacho 2021 (Link here). Krithika is also an active performer with Team Ground Zero, a Bollywood Dance Team based in Dallas, one of the only teams to represent Bollywood dancing at Hype Dallas 2019 and 2021.
Krithika continues to learn and teach different styles of dance, venturing more in to the artform that has shaped the very essence of her life. In addition to her studies in dance, Krithika holds a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering degree and is currently doing her Joint PhD in the same at the University of Texas at Dallas and the UT Southwestern Medical Center.
