Student Legacy Scholarship Fund

The PiP Legacy Student Scholarship was founded in 2016 to award modest financial gifts for college expenses to selected recipients. PiP is proud to award $3,500 in scholarship monies to three of our 2021 graduates in the amounts of $2,000, $1,000, and $500.

The submissions for the 2021 PIP Scholarships were the best the committee has seen to date. Anyone of this year’s applicants would have made an excellent choice to award the PIP Legacy Student Scholarships. All three winners this year are members of National Honor Society with demonstrated leadership abilities, numerous awards, and participate in extensive extracurricular and volunteer activities. What distinguished these candidates was their ability connect and persuasively convey how the IB education they received at Imagine not only positively affected them, but also how it enabled them to contribute and have meaningful impact on their fellow students, communities, and beyond.

Applications were redacted and reviewed by a selection committee who was blinded to the names of each applicant. The decision on who would receive the scholarships was made based on the personal essay and recommendation letter that were submitted.

On behalf of the faculty, parents, and students at IIANT, Parents in Partnership is honored to recognize the following winners from the Class of 2021…
Picture
First Place: $2000
Winner: Ananya Vegesna
The selection committee shared the following when selecting your blinded application as the first-place winner…
This candidate’s recommender wrote that her “innate kindness and her ability to lead by example attracted others to emulate her”. She inspired and encouraged her fellow students to discover their own paths. She has often said “that in serving others she has learned more about herself and how every person has something that they can contribute regardless of their circumstances”. In her creative essay submission, she wrote how the IB’s unique opportunities and Imagines’ close-knit community of students, teachers and staff enabled her to develop a ‘growth mindset’ and appreciation for others around her.

The committee went on to highlight her leadership with the Borgen Project, National Charity League and the YMCA Teen Board as reasons for selecting her as the top award winner.
Second Place: $1000
Winner: Heer Shah
The selection committee shared the following when selecting your blinded application as the second-place winner…
This candidate’s recommender writes of her “positive attitude”, “work ethic”, “friendly nature”, “curiosity, determination and commitment to learning” which allowed her to become a role model and someone her peers could look up to for guidance in their academics. Her wonderfully written essay submission is the best this year. Not only is she a good writer, but she excels in biology. As part of her 11th grade CAS project, she started a tutorial service for struggling SL Biology students at Imagine and was successful in helping many of the participants to improve their grades.

The committee went on to recognize her leadership with the “March for Our Lives McKinney” and “Kind Cards for COVID,” as well as her commitment to Title Boxing Club as reasons for selecting her as one of the award recipients this year.

Third Place: $500
Winner: Regina Cruz Butron
The selection committee shared the following when selecting your blinded application as the third-place winner…
This candidate’s recommender writes that she not only has a strong work ethic and drive for improvement, but she is a caring individual who has embraced the Imagine philosophy of helping others. Furthermore, the recommender writes that... “she is passionate and dedicated to the betterment of all”. In her essay submission, she writes that before she came to Imagine she had a relatively narrow perspective of the larger world which caused her to be unaware of all the challenges that others face.

The committee went on to cite her role in helping the Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley as her 10th Grade Personal Project and that her extended essay helped solidify her desired career path in international affairs and international law. She has an extensive list of volunteer activities, including mentoring ADHD and dyslexia students, serving as a summer intern for the ACLU, helping with numerous agencies focused on supporting immigrants and refugees, and she is also a competitive figure skater who helps teach beginner skaters.
PiP is proud of this year’s graduating class. You have demonstrated great endurance, tenacity, and perseverance in their pursuit of their DP diplomas despite being surrounded by a world-wide pandemic. We wish you the absolute best in your future endeavors and know you’ll go on to do great things.

Congratulations!

PiP has created a Legacy Scholarship Fund for graduating students that will last for years to come...

Imagine Parents In Partnership (PiP) is a 501c3 non-profit, volunteer organization that serves the students, parents, teachers and administration of Imagine International Academy of North Texas (IIANT), a young International Baccalaureate (IB) World School located in McKinney, Texas.

IIANT graduated its first high school class in 2016. T
hrough generous donations, PiP raised $2,500 and awarded modest financial gifts for college expenses to selected recipients that year. It also retained a portion of the funds to seed a sustainable program for future graduating classes.

The PiP Student Legacy Scholarship Fund is not a formal endowment fund and is maintained through ongoing donations and fundraising efforts of Parents in Partnership.  Donations are considered temporary restricted funds that are maintained to benefit each graduating class. Donations specifically for the Student Legacy Scholarship Fund are tax deductible and are fully applied toward funds awarded to students.
